CAVS 12U Win AVAC Hoyas Tourney

Don’t be mad at me. I SO love all of our CAVS divisions. However, everyone has a specialty area. Mine is in 12U. It’s where I live and breathe, and after each game I tend to post what I’ve experienced quickly. So, with that said….

…here I go.

CAVS 12U is certainly kicking off 2011 with a bang. Congratulations 12U for winning the AVAC Hoyas Tourney this weekend in Lancaster!!!! They did it again, for a second consecutive weekend--two championships in a row!!!

And it goes a little somethin’ like this…..

On Saturday, CAVS 12U was supposed to face off first with Vegas Elite.  Pools were changed and 12U ended up with the Mountaineers for their 5:00pm game. 12U won that game, 65-10.
12U continued on to battle the Franklin Eagles at 7:00pm and won 50-25, placing them in the final rounds for Sunday.
The final rounds on Sunday began pretty much the same as Saturday, with CAVS winning against the AVAC Hoyas, 53-16.
The real action began when CAVS 12U found themselves back in the saddle once again, with Vegas Elite. Remember, we just battled it out with them at OUR Holiday Classics, where we brought home the championship? It was intense, then. Needless to say, Vegas Elite probably wanted our heads. Stress was high and tempers were flaring, from coaches to parents, to referees. You would have thought folks had MONEY on that game.

I’m not a fan of all the drama. I just love basketball and LOVE to see the youth get down with it….but some people were BORN slappable. NOT speaking on any one person in particular (or from any particular team). I’m just sayin’.

Oh yeah, and is it JUST ME, or do they NOT TEACH what a doggoned JUMP STOP is in ref school? Seriously--because if they DO teach it, refs always seem to develop amnesia about the subject when it comes to us. All I know is that we consistently get called for traveling when we do perfectly clean jump stops. Jeez.

Anyway…..
The ball “don’t” lie…..Vegas Elite came to play….but so did CAVS 12U. The battle was ON----tit for tat. However, CAVS 12U turned their heat dial up just a LITTLE hotter and garnered the evening victory over Vegas Elite, 33-27.

Congrats to Chasen Pender, who received the main first place team trophy (you know…the one about three feet tall) for all of his efforts this weekend. Our other boys were fire, but Chasen was a towering inferno.  WE SEE YOU, CHASEN PENDER!!

Shouts out to 12U’s Coach Darryl, who after 20 years of winning tournaments (and who probably has to rent out the Staples Center if he wants to actually display all of his championship trophies) is handing them to whatever player that exhibited their very best efforts in the overall tourney. GREAT idea, coach!!
We are more than proud of our 12U Boys!! Two championships in a row under their belts for 2011!! Way to get the brand new year rolling! To be honest, CAVS 12U players are still “shaking the dust off” and are in “practice mode”. They haven’t really even gotten STARTED yet.

Wait until they DO.  Scary.

GO CAVS 12U!!!!

GAME ON!!! CAVS 2011…..u ready?

CAVS 11U Finish Second in AVAC Hoyas Tourney

Congrats additionally go up to 11U who finished second in the AVAC Hoyas Tourney in Lancaster this weekend.

They almost did it folks….almost brought home the championship. I hear they lost by one measly point!! Isn’t that something? However, we are proud of our 2nd Place Champions. You worked hard and one point doesn’t change who you are...winners!

WAY to GO 11U!!!

CAVS 9U Finish Second in AVAC Hoyas Tourney

Congrats go up to 9U who finished second in the AVAC Hoyas Tourney in Lancaster this weekend. Though the rounds were NOT without drama & strife (we won’t even GET INTO that) and a couple of players who really weren’t feeling well….the end result was a bright red and gold trophy to take home for our young champions.

We certainly can’t be mad at that.

WAY to GO 9U!!!

CAVS 12U Win HAX MLK Classics in First Tourney of 2011!!

I would say Happy New Year to you all yet again, but it’s currently January 16th. It just feels awfully dated at this point. Okay…so for the first 2011 tournament for CAVS 12U, WHY was my video camera NOT working this time when I DIDN’T forget it at home? Remember the last game of our 2010 season? Yeah. It was only the hottest game ever and I’d forgotten my video camera?  Now, I bring it and it doesn’t want to work? ARRRGH!! Whatever. I’m back. The point is….
CAVS 12U won the HAX MLK Classics this weekend, January 15th and 16th, fresh after coming off of the holiday break. Doesn’t sound amazing, but really, it is. I don’t know….was it too much holiday chicken? Pie? Mashed Potatoes? I don’t know…but we were HOT with a smoldering momentum right before the holiday break. Now, the CAVS are like Stella…trying to get their groove back.

Oh, but what a way to start trying!

The weekend began with CAVS 12U playing the Rising Stars of America at 9am on Saturday morning, gaining their first fresh-off-the-holiday-break victory of 39-13.  I must say we certainly USED to sleepwalk during early games, but these days, the “morning zombie” syndrome appears to be dormant.
Luckily.

As much as I am NOT a fan of complete and total “blow-out” games, I still must post the next score. After all, this really is BIG-BOY BASKETBALL.  CAVS 12U then blew through Hooptown 52-6, placing CAVS in the semi-finals. I think it was during this game (during the exact middle of it) that I went to go grab some hot chocolate...and drank most of it before coming back to watch.  I mean…gosh.
So, on Sunday, CAVS 12U met up with HAX Red (Red? Really? Even though their jerseys are black?) for another 9am game and won 58-18, leaving only one more game left to play to get to the championship….

That would be against HAX Black.

CAVS 12U earned a win over HAX Black, 41-20, which carried us all to the moment of truth. The moment was cute, really, as we were whirled into a supreme case of déjà vu, once again face-to-face with the I-Can All Stars—who we just battled for the championship at the Kenny Smith Tourney before the holiday break.

This game was NOT as cool or intense as the one at the Kenny Smith tourney, but it was laced with action. After all, there were two undefeated teams battling it out once again for the championship title? How could it not be?

Okay, to be quite honest, a lot of the action was distributed by the refs. OMG. With both sides complaining and multiple whistles blowing, tempers flared, parents hooted and technical fouls were granted for one reason or another.

See what I mean in this photo? I call it..."REF DISTRESS".  LOVE it!

As for me….with respect to ref complaints? LAWD. Let me plead the fifth.

Okay, moving on….

Despite the energetic efforts of I-Can All Stars, CAVS 12U once again garnered the final championship victory, 46-40. Way to work off the holiday fuzz!! Go CAVS 12U!!

 GAME ON!!! CAVS 2011…..u ready?
