CAVS 13U Open The Season Vs. 14U Teams in the SGV Aloha Challenge

Aha….and you thought you’d just get away with reading about this up top in the “This Just In” section! In your DREAMS!! You know how we do it on this site. We’re talking about the SGV Aloha Challenge Tourney, October 15th-16th at the American Sports Center in Anaheim.

Dude--this weekend? It all just felt strange. Maybe because it was the very first tourney of the season after only two days of practice – neither of which our normal squad was present; I don’t know. Or…was it because all the boys galloped their mini-muscular frames all up and through Magic Mountain from early afternoon to late evening on Saturday (after playing the day’s games). Okay. Have you ever walked around Magic Mountain—through the hills (especially on the way up to the Superman ride—it’s a killer) and up all the stairs and such? It’s like marathon training. If you are not in shape going, you will be in shape when you leave. GUARANTEED.

On top of that, the boys had a morning game on Sunday after all that on Saturday. Life hasn’t changed. Everybody’s still half-dead in the mornings—including me.  Oh well…it doesn’t matter. The boys are warming up in these first few tourneys and preparing for all that is yet to come. Fine; let them. We want all bonehead mistakes and kinks to surface NOW, before the core season kicks in.

So, in a nutshell, CAVS 13U racked up two wins and two losses during the weekend. On Saturday, CAVS 13U defeated the 14U Monrovia Mountaineers 49-12 and then lost to the 14U OC Panthers (GOSH, what a difference a year or two in age makes!!) 52-29.
On Sunday, CAVS 13U encountered the 14U Santa Clarita Playmakers (in the morning game) and lost 46-33 (not as bad as the first loss). That afternoon, with the blood flowing through their brains again and the sleep out of their eyes, CAVS 13U gained the second win of the weekend against 14U Vegas Elite Black, 47-17.
THE WEEKEND IN REVIEW: The SGV organization was well-organized and I liked the revised Sports Center. It wasn’t either of their faults that the women’s bathroom yielded raw, putrid vapors (100 times worse than the men’s) strong enough to lay a Budweiser horse flat, separately crumple the paint off the walls and whittle all the sheet rock down. JEEZ. You’ve got to be kidding me. Did NO ONE use their bathrooms at home the night before? Let’s just say that somebody had to be suffering from early digestion reversals. For real.

Attendees, for the most part, were calm. The Lakers’ Ron Artest (Ron-Ron—I mean Metta World Peace—or should I just say Metta-Metta? World-World? MWP? I don’t know….WTH?) graced a few benches there, during the weekend, with Laker fans craning their necks for unauthorized glimpses at him. Everyone saw him clearly when he stood up, though, towering over the masses.

We won’t rehash the parking—you know what it is. There were a few “issues” concerning the refs (re: bad calls during the games) but nothing anyone couldn’t handle (with a few warnings). Other than that, the event seemed to be civil while we were there.

NEXT STOP….CAVS 13U vs. 14U teams once again at the Monrovia Mountaineers Premier Halloween Tournament, October 22nd-23rd. You ready? GAME ON!!!

CAVS 2012…U READY? YOU’D BETTER BE. GAME ON!!

Heyyyy! Missed ya! I sincerely hope everyone had a WONDERFUL summer and back-to-school month of September, which, by the way, all seemed to whisk by at the speed of light. Jeez. Where’d the time go? I’m lookin’ at Halloween costumes and Christmas trees. Mercy. Okay, so you’ve read the title of this post. YES. It is what you’re thinking. The 2011-2012 CAVS Youth Basketball season has officially begun!
It all began with CAVS Sunday workouts in September and kicked off with the first, official CAVS practice on Monday, October 3rd – all at Montclair Prep High School.
In fact, all practices will be at Montclair Prep until they finish construction on the Chatsworth gyms. Oh yeah. NEW FLOORS are coming. Imagine that.
Right now, the mighty CAVS divisions are “shaking off the summer fuzz” and are in training for exciting new things to come…..and NO. There is no tournament this weekend.  We are talking about the CAVS/AVAC Hoyas/West Coast Basketball Association, etc. We just received word today. Why? I have no clue. We’ll just keep it moving.

What’s new for 2012? CAVS Youth Basketball presents….“The Wall”. Ooooh. Okay, from here on out, I won’t be using quotation marks for this title, because it’s irritating. So….what is The Wall? Why, it is only our newest, hottest way of distributing all current CAVS news on our official website – www.cavsyouthbasketball.org! You can even subscribe to The Wall directly from the page. Basically, THIS CAVS Live Season Blog site had a baby. The baby is The Wall.  Will news on The Wall be much different from news on this page? OH yes. Parents and babies are different! This site keeps track of and reports everything that happens during the season…in vivid color and detail. The Wall gives you snippets and public formalities. Eh…you get the picture. For best results, visit us both! You won’t regret it.

Click HERE to visit The Wall now.

Also new is our upcoming CAVS Online Open House, November 4th- 6th. Mark your calendars. You’ll be able to view new CAVS sites, videos, be entered in a drawing for prizes, view promotional ads, enjoy registration incentives and more. Now, for those of you, who are already “technology-challenged”, don’t panic! It will be simple. We will just be inviting you to check out everything that is new on the web for CAVS Youth Basketball. If your fingers work, you can click. If you can click, you can participate in our first-ever, Online Open House! We will expect you to visit us that weekend. After all…you don’t have to leave your home to do it! Wait---or do you?

We’ve also got our  CAVS Annual Tryouts on November 13th and our Annual CAVS Winter Classic Tourney, December 3rd and 4th. There’s other stuff, but we won’t crowd your brain just yet. Just know that this season is going to be HOT!!!

Right now, we’ve got lots of missing players who are married to their football schedules, but we look forward to seeing everybody back together again after the knee-grazing, ugly strawberries on all available limbs-making, ligament-tearing, bone-crushing, constant sports medicine appointment-needing, cold & rain games regardless-suffering, finger-spraining, somebody-gets-hurt-every-five-seconds, ten-boy pileup (with your kid at the very bottom)-causing FOOTBALL SEASON is OVER! There are dads all over who want to attack based on that colorful description of football, but I’ve got three words for them. IT’S ALL TRUE!!!

****In the meantime, keep it locked here and on THE WALL (Yes…if you want to visit after you read this, THE WALL is clickable). We will be bringing you live news and exciting, up-to-the-minute current information all season.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!! Y’all come back now, ya’ hear?

CAVS 2012…u ready?
GAME ON.

Brought to you by....www.cavsyouthbasketball.org.
