CAVS 12U Division swept through the CAVS Holiday Classics this past Saturday, December 4th and Sunday, December 5th, ultimately scoring the Platinum Championship (there was also a 12U Gold Division).
Things begun with CAVS 12U facing off with HD Crush at Grant High School on Saturday, where they picked up a 43-12 victory.
The excitement moved to Highland Hall, that afternoon, where 12U would garner a 49-31 win against All City West, placing them in Sunday’s playoffs. On Sunday, 12U beat Harvard Westlake 57-48 to meet right back with All City West for the semi-final rounds. SCORE!!! CAVS 12U rounded up a 51-31 win to move them on to the Platinum Championship game later Sunday evening.
It would be a game none of us will probably ever forget for years to come. LAWD.
You ready for this? How to begin? Well…CAVS 12U found themselves once again face-to-face with Las Vegas Elite. See…last year in June, at our CAVS Summer Classics, 12U was acting like they didn’t care WHO won our own classics; therefore, we walked away as 2nd place champions of our own tournament, while Las Vegas Elite won it all. ??????
Not this year.
In fact, not last season, either, when 12U (then 11U) turned the “out-to-lunch” sign around and brought home a 42-30 win against Las Vegas Elite in July. This past Sunday would be a bit different, with CAVS 12U taking the lead and bringing home the Platinum Championship with at least a 27-point victory (the clock was shut off at that point—we’ll get to that in a sec). The win was not just because of the gazillion technical fouls handed over to our friend/coach of LV Elite like Halloween candy, either. CAVS 12U pretty much had the victory in the bag. So yeah….the 12U game was called on behalf of….irate “behavior”. Many saw things that night that could’ve easily racked up millions of YouTube viewers, but we don’t take it there.
See…with games running behind (as they tend to do in multi-team tourneys) rain coming down hard outside, folks freshly pressed hairdo’s quickly becoming hair don’ts….the general mood of the Chatsworth gym was met with overall irritation to begin with. Coaches had wild hairs, parents wanted to bicker, etc. All this was before the game even began. Apparently, when it DID begin, you could cut the thick tension in the air with a knife. How ironic for a KIDS GAME. (Did anyone remember these things are supposed to be about the kids?) Anyway….reportedly…parents were just livid with the refs over “bad calls” and with other parents in the stands….and scheduling…and this and that…yadayadayada. The bottom line? MOST just wanted the entire game OVER with at that point.
And so it was.
Congratulations CAVS 12U for bringing home the Platinum Championship! We see you!
