I would say Happy New Year to you all yet again, but it’s currently January 16th. It just feels awfully dated at this point. Okay…so for the first 2011 tournament for CAVS 12U, WHY was my video camera NOT working this time when I DIDN’T forget it at home? Remember the last game of our 2010 season? Yeah. It was only the hottest game ever and I’d forgotten my video camera? Now, I bring it and it doesn’t want to work? ARRRGH!! Whatever. I’m back. The point is….
CAVS 12U won the HAX MLK Classics this weekend, January 15th and 16th, fresh after coming off of the holiday break. Doesn’t sound amazing, but really, it is. I don’t know….was it too much holiday chicken? Pie? Mashed Potatoes? I don’t know…but we were HOT with a smoldering momentum right before the holiday break. Now, the CAVS are like Stella…trying to get their groove back.
Oh, but what a way to start trying!
The weekend began with CAVS 12U playing the Rising Stars of America at 9am on Saturday morning, gaining their first fresh-off-the-holiday-break victory of 39-13. I must say we certainly USED to sleepwalk during early games, but these days, the “morning zombie” syndrome appears to be dormant.
Luckily.
As much as I am NOT a fan of complete and total “blow-out” games, I still must post the next score. After all, this really is BIG-BOY BASKETBALL. CAVS 12U then blew through Hooptown 52-6, placing CAVS in the semi-finals. I think it was during this game (during the exact middle of it) that I went to go grab some hot chocolate...and drank most of it before coming back to watch. I mean…gosh.
So, on Sunday, CAVS 12U met up with HAX Red (Red? Really? Even though their jerseys are black?) for another 9am game and won 58-18, leaving only one more game left to play to get to the championship….
That would be against HAX Black.
CAVS 12U earned a win over HAX Black, 41-20, which carried us all to the moment of truth. The moment was cute, really, as we were whirled into a supreme case of déjà vu, once again face-to-face with the I-Can All Stars—who we just battled for the championship at the Kenny Smith Tourney before the holiday break.
This game was NOT as cool or intense as the one at the Kenny Smith tourney, but it was laced with action. After all, there were two undefeated teams battling it out once again for the championship title? How could it not be?
