THE NEW Garden Grove facilities are niiiiice.
The floors resemble the nice, shiny, colorful, rented ones they use in the Reno Jam On It National Tourney each year, there are cool areas for volleyball and an AWESOME (did I say AWESOME?!!) indoor soccer field. I must've spent about 20 minutes just walking up and down that artificial grass! SWEEET!!
And....
While everyone (I'm so SURE) must be sick to death of chilli dogs, nachos, chips and candy as the main highlights at all tourneys, in Garden Grove, there are actual healthy thick-bun sandwiches (turkey or ham--a choice!!) ACTUAL SALADS (unbelievable!!!) and flavored shaved ice delights (lemon, mango, etc.) which have real fruit in them! Imagine that!
The prices are the norm for basketball facilities. $5.00 for a sandwich and chips, etc. Heck, at least the chips were included. We've previously encountered $5.00 for just a sloppy sandwich pieced together with 99 Cents Store bread. Really? Somebody should've been slapped for that. Seriously! There is no need to gouge people after $10 admission and $5 parking!
I just wish Garden Grove was in the Valley. The Valley desperately needs one of these facilities for all the teams on the other side of Earth. Oh well…until we get that, we’ll all just make the hauls to Garden Grove and Anaheim Sports Complex and hopefully visit Disneyland on the way, if we perhaps have an extra $400 just to get in the park.
Anyhoo….
The 13U CAVS Boyz did it again....oh AND girl, too! Meet Mina...the wonder girl who was takin' it to the RACK and goin' after her own rebounds (IF rebounds had to happen at all--she scored most of the time):
Just so we're clear....I am officially a MINA fan!!!
Anyway....CAVS 13U brought home the championship in the CAVS/Impact Spring Spectacular Tourney, March 31st-April 1st, 2012. However, I am going to comment on this tourney as if I were Randy Jackson from American Idol.
(Pointing that long finger) Eh…it was just okay for me, dog.
This tourney was used basically as practice/preparation for all of the mighty CAVS divisions for the upcoming Vegas Tourney, but things just seemed to be a little off with many of the CAVS ballers. Was it the rain and cold the first day, yet sunshine and cold during the second?
We don’t know.
There was something, though.
However, CAVS 13U played back-to-back games in both the 13U and 14U divisions and went undefeated in both, on Saturday. CAVS 13U even battled the 14U Kings team, of which a former CAVS Baller was among the competition. That's always fun, isn't it?
Honestly? We love our former CAVS Ballers. There's always respect and love when we see each other.
On Sunday, CAVS 13U battled the 14U Wildcats in a semi-final game that went toe-to-toe the entire time; leaving CAVS 13U in the rear by 3 points by the last of the 2nd half. At just seven seconds left, CAVS 13U tied the game up with a quick 3-pointer, causing the Wildcats to call a time out.
It was frustrating, though, because ultimately, mistakes and turnovers throughout the entire game cost CAVS 13U the 14U semi-finals by a mere two points, 54-52, with only 0.2 seconds remaining on the clock.
Only a two-point game for a 13U team playing up would normally not be considered as “that bad”, but for CAVS 13U? It was that bad.
If every CAVS 13U baller were INDEED on their proper game, the game would not have been close. The coaches knew that, too and were frustrated to the ultimate hilt.
I just don’t know how they keep it together. Of course we would love every player ballin' out at the top of their game every single time in a perfect little world with roses and flowers and smiles and hugs and dewdrop kisses. However, in the REAL world? NO WONDER why most coaches are bald. If I had to deal with this kinda stuff every weekend, I’d either pull my own hair out, or it would just fall clean OUT from all the stress.
However, on the positive tip, CAVS 13U did go on to win the Semi-Finals vs. Impact, 51-34.....
....and ultimately won the Championship against the 13U Wildcats, 60-20, making this the FOURTH, consecutive championship for 2012. GO CAVS 13U!!!
What's even MORE amazing is that everyone was facing the camera at the same time! Can you believe it?
Yoohooo!!****Check out the tourney photos on our Facebook site:
Next stop….Bigfoot Hoops Tourney in Vegas, baby!! Travel season is in session!! GAME ON!!!
P.S. Things that make you go "hmmmm": Many of us bought $3.00 raffle tickets (yes, PLURAL) on Sunday at the gym for a 4:00pm "raffle" that never happened. Prizes "to be won" were supposed to be Laker Tickets, Clipper Tickets, or Aquarium of The Pacific tickets.
Hmmmm............
Can't knock the hustle.
