CAVS 13U Finish As 2nd Place Champions in CA Heat Thanksgiving Tourney

We'll repeat that again. CAVS 13U Win Finish as 2nd Place Champions in the CA Heat Thanksgiving Tourney.

I know, right? Really?

CAVS 13U finished SECOND….in a 13U tourney…against CA Heat? On top of that, it was a game that went into overtime in a battle to the finish.  I mean---how long has this on-the-court rivalry been going on? We love the Heat and they love us—it’s all love---but seriously? Yeah. For CERTAIN there are some folks who REALLY didn’t want to see this particular write-up, but we’re about to rock it until the wheels fall off. Call it the first real 13U tourney of the season (as the clan has been playing up as 14U in the last few events). We’re talking about the CA Heat Thanksgiving Tourney, November 19th and 20th, 2011 in Pasadena, CA. Were the CAVS out of their usual rhythm in this tourney? YES….without a doubt! If CAVS 13U were in full sync, we wouldn’t even been having this blog-like conversation unless it was for a 1st place championship discussion.

With that said….here’s the deal:

CAVS 13U, vs. the Next Level team during a 5:00pm evening game in Pasadena, pulled their first win of the tourney, 46-33.
At 7:00pm, CAVS 13U defeated Team Ararat, 58-13. No, it wasn’t fair.

On Sunday, the battle against the “Heats” began with a face-off vs. the ELA Heat. CAVS 13U garnered that win at 45-21, placing them into the Championship Game.

Yeah. I guess there was no real shock to anyone when CAVS 13U met CA Heat on the court for the Championship Game.
Did we NOT know that was going to happen? Okay. I must admit…this was quite a game—not from the yelling parents on the sidelines standpoint—but because it was an actual BATTLE….to the point of going into overtime.
We’ll give you the scenario. In the last two minutes, CAVS 13U earned the tiebreaking layup, but CA Heat was determined. They scored…then WE scored.
They scored again—we scored again. It was tit-for-tat until things were down to the wire, 45-45 (The picture above is before overtime). Somehow, someway….something slipped (the BALL, perhaps)….and slipped right down court. Boom! CA Heat scored the last layup down low right before the buzzer, gaining the win at 47-45. You should have heard the gym erupt. OMG. You would have thought President Obama had just told every family in America they would eat free for a year. We’re not mad, though. Who can blame em’? It’s not a normal occurrence.
So…there you have it, folks. CAVS 13U finished as 2nd Place Champions against the CA Heat.

The CAVS BOYZ are all back in town, working hard, honing in on that highly-anticipated flow they are known for that effortlessly earns back-to-back championships.

We certainly DO hope that the victory on Sunday, November 26th was thoroughly enjoyed.

It won’t be happening again!! GAME ON!!

Check out the exciting photos from this tourney on our Facebook site HERE.

NEXT STOP….Impact Thanksgiving Tourney, November 25th-26th!!

Keep it locked right here!!

CAVS 13U Open The Season Vs. 14U Teams in the SGV Aloha Challenge

Aha….and you thought you’d just get away with reading about this up top in the “This Just In” section! In your DREAMS!! You know how we do it on this site. We’re talking about the SGV Aloha Challenge Tourney, October 15th-16th at the American Sports Center in Anaheim.

Dude--this weekend? It all just felt strange. Maybe because it was the very first tourney of the season after only two days of practice – neither of which our normal squad was present; I don’t know. Or…was it because all the boys galloped their mini-muscular frames all up and through Magic Mountain from early afternoon to late evening on Saturday (after playing the day’s games). Okay. Have you ever walked around Magic Mountain—through the hills (especially on the way up to the Superman ride—it’s a killer) and up all the stairs and such? It’s like marathon training. If you are not in shape going, you will be in shape when you leave. GUARANTEED.

On top of that, the boys had a morning game on Sunday after all that on Saturday. Life hasn’t changed. Everybody’s still half-dead in the mornings—including me.  Oh well…it doesn’t matter. The boys are warming up in these first few tourneys and preparing for all that is yet to come. Fine; let them. We want all bonehead mistakes and kinks to surface NOW, before the core season kicks in.

So, in a nutshell, CAVS 13U racked up two wins and two losses during the weekend. On Saturday, CAVS 13U defeated the 14U Monrovia Mountaineers 49-12 and then lost to the 14U OC Panthers (GOSH, what a difference a year or two in age makes!!) 52-29.
On Sunday, CAVS 13U encountered the 14U Santa Clarita Playmakers (in the morning game) and lost 46-33 (not as bad as the first loss). That afternoon, with the blood flowing through their brains again and the sleep out of their eyes, CAVS 13U gained the second win of the weekend against 14U Vegas Elite Black, 47-17.
THE WEEKEND IN REVIEW: The SGV organization was well-organized and I liked the revised Sports Center. It wasn’t either of their faults that the women’s bathroom yielded raw, putrid vapors (100 times worse than the men’s) strong enough to lay a Budweiser horse flat, separately crumple the paint off the walls and whittle all the sheet rock down. JEEZ. You’ve got to be kidding me. Did NO ONE use their bathrooms at home the night before? Let’s just say that somebody had to be suffering from early digestion reversals. For real.

Attendees, for the most part, were calm. The Lakers’ Ron Artest (Ron-Ron—I mean Metta World Peace—or should I just say Metta-Metta? World-World? MWP? I don’t know….WTH?) graced a few benches there, during the weekend, with Laker fans craning their necks for unauthorized glimpses at him. Everyone saw him clearly when he stood up, though, towering over the masses.

We won’t rehash the parking—you know what it is. There were a few “issues” concerning the refs (re: bad calls during the games) but nothing anyone couldn’t handle (with a few warnings). Other than that, the event seemed to be civil while we were there.

NEXT STOP….CAVS 13U vs. 14U teams once again at the Monrovia Mountaineers Premier Halloween Tournament, October 22nd-23rd. You ready? GAME ON!!!
