RUMOR HAS IT:

(The CAVS YB Raw Discussion Bowl)

***BYE BYE, BABY...HELLO SUNSHINE!***

Yeah. It's kinda crazy, really. Just when CAVS 14U loses yet another player, another player (quite a substantial one, at that) secures a spot on the roster.

Yep.

Business as usual.

And that's all we have to say about that.

***THE REAL CHAMPIONSHIP***

Um...we never talked about what happened with CAVS 14U at the SGV Tourney. Since they didn't come home with the trophy, the thought was chucked to the wind...or was it?

Dude, EVERYBODY watching knew the REAL Championship game was between CAVS 14U and West Coast Select. We're talking 14U Elite Division, here. What a game! WCS had CAVS 14U down by 20 points at one time. Next thing you know, the CAVS Boys pulled it all the way to a 1-point deficit, 56-55 (or something like that) but lost it in the end because of mistakes.

That is the short version, but you just had to BE there. It was like...NBA excitement and EVERYBODY was watching!

Rumor has it that West Coast went on to play the Arizona Crusaders for the Championship. The Crusaders took it all, 51-42, but we heard the game was...um...deflated....as in...VOID of excitement.

Oh well. Another time. Another place.

Game on.

***HOMECOMING: IT'S WHERE THE HEART IS***

You read right. No CAVS Homecoming 2013 this year at Chatsworth--where it has been for like, ever.

However...

Since life is what you make it...

...and home is where the heart is...

...and all that rest of that good ole' cliche stuff--

Homecoming will be right at home in San Fernando=home of the best darned Flea Market in the area!

Enjoy some games. Get in the Shootout Contest. Get a stamp. Walk over to the Flea Market. Grab some bargains. You can't do that in Chatsworth. Return back to Homecoming for more games and fun. Sounds like a weekend!

Will there be an Alumni/Celebrity Basketball game this year?

Hmmm....

Time will tell.

****Stay tuned...we WILL be discussing all of the subjects of the season you've been merely just THINKING about.

*********************************************

****Don't forget!! If you'd like to contact us and be a part of the CAVS, our Tryouts are every Monday during our regular practice sessions. Gone are the days of our once a year, annual tryouts. This is an all-new SEASON 25, baby!!!

Just come and bring it---no pressure. Simply work out with us and we'll go from there!!!

****Please contact us right away HERE.

Oh...and please give us some time to get back with you! We will!

CAVS 12U Win 7th Annual Kenny Smith Christmas B-Ball Tourney

OMG. If you weren’t there, you should have been there, please believe. I am still highly upset that I’d forgotten my blasted video camera cord at home.  I’m STILL kicking myself for not having footage.  However, CAVS 12U had a GREAT weekend this past Saturday, December 18th and Sunday, December 19th at the Sports Complex in Anaheim. Yep. It is because they won the championship in the 7th Annual Kenny Smith Christmas B-Ball Tourney. This marks the second consecutive large tourney this month where they brought home the championship. What a perfect way to close out the year! So, here we go….

On Saturday, CAVS 12U first defeated 5 on 5, 35-14 and then Pressure Basketball, 37-15.

On Sunday, CAVS 12U met up again with the OC Panthers (we recently played them somewhere else, I can’t quite remember…) and won, 35-18.
This set 12U to square off with Pressure for a second time, despite starting things off with a clock that didn’t seem to want to work no matter WHAT anybody did.  Refs moved our game to an empty court nearby and the game continued.  CAVS gained a 34-17 victory on the new court, with the working clock.

That’s when things got interesting.

The championship game went DOWN at 3:00pm. I know folks were tired from being around all day, since the morning (heck, I was one of em’) but you MUST know…THIS was the game of the day.  CAVS 12U faced off with I-Can All Stars.  For those of you who do NOT know the I-Can All Stars, I will be the FIRST to tell you NOT to sleep on them or misjudge them—especially because two of their main guards (Diggy and Journey) are short in height.  Let me stop you right there. Those two boys are quicker than water bugs scattering away from bright light and will be past you with the ball in the basket in the blink of an eye. Much love for those boys because they have heart and hustle! That’s much of what it takes.

However, you know CAVS 12U are NOT to be slept on, either.  So…this game was a constant fight to the finish, from start to end, though it started as a spanking. Our coaches were flabbergasted. The I-Can All Stars had CAVS 12U locked up tight by at least ten points during the first half. The score was 6 to 16 at one point! In fact, the first half ended 23-29, with I-Can All Stars leading!

Did I also mention the Pigeon that took center-court seats to watch the game with us?
We can't make this stuff up.  If this sounds intense, I think ALL the coaches needed Excedrin for the second half.
It was then, that CAVS 12U turned up the heat.  In the second half, with 2:56 left on the clock, 12U led 46-39, but it was not good enough. I-Can then turned up their heat. The game was a constant push-pull, shot-for-shot.
However, several bad fouls, a near-brawl experience and multiple free throws later placed the score to 51-48, with I-Can trailing behind by three points.  Wow. With I-Can holding the ball and all the parents from both teams tearing their hair out in sheer stress RIGHT as the clock was one second to 0.00, I-Can hit a three point buzzer-beater, tying the game up, 51-51. The crowd erupted; overtime.

Jeez.

By then, ALL the other games in the entire gym were over except for ours. In fact, the back of the building was completely dark. Even Kenny Smith, who was supposed to take a picture with the winners of each game, had long gone. It was on…down to the last two minutes of the night. A knife wouldn’t be sharp enough to cut the tension in the room—you’d need an axe.

By then, the janitors had come over to watch the rest of the game.

The last two minutes began with a scrappy tip-off, which resulted in I-Can traveling and turning the ball over to CAVS 12U.
Why’d they do that? It was then that CAVS scored and took the lead, followed by a foul in our favor and a free throw—which we missed. With 10 seconds left on the clock, someone fouled 12U again and we went to the line for two more free throws.

We made both of those. With only a few seconds left in the game, I-Cann tried, but couldn’t catch up, resulting in a 55-52 championship victory for CAVS 12U. PHEW!!!
What a game, what a weekend and what a way to wrap up the 2010 basketball season! Go CAVS 12U!!!

CAVS 2011…are you ready?

CAVS 9U Finish Second in the 7th Annual Kenny Smith Christmas B-Ball Tourney

Rain, rain go away.....

This weekend, many of us braved the flash floods, the ridiculous drivers (rain just gave them an excuse for their usual stupidity) and multiple traffic spinouts on the wet, slushy freeways to see it all go down at the Aim High/Kenny Smith Christmas B-Ball Tourney at the Sports Center in Anaheim.

Man...don't we love our kids?

Since many of our 10U and 11U players were out SICK this time and couldn’t play in their divisions this  weekend (could folks PLEASE quit coughin’ and blowin’ germs our way, so we can stay well, please???), it was up to our 9U CAVS to represent the younger spectrum of things.

Congrats go out to CAVS 9U for finishing as Second Place Champions this weekend!!

It was a nail-biter (as nail-biting as a 9-year old basketball game can possibly be, realistically, without most of us thinking….gosh, they are SO little and cute!!) on Saturday, December 17th, when CAVS 9U faced off with the Corona Lakers. 9U started off with mistakes and trailed 5-12 at the end of the first quarter. Then, the heavens opened and 9U showed some heart during the second half, earning them a VERY CLOSE victory of 15-14.  Way to fight, CAVS 9U!!

Later Saturday afternoon, 9U would meet up with WCA and would suffer a loss 30-12. However, that did not break their spirits. On Sunday, 9U handed it all back to The Coves Finest, earning a victory of 21-15.
However, the effort still placed CAVS 9U in second place, because of Saturday’s loss. Hey…whatever…we’ll take it!  It was still a win.  9U enjoyed taking their winner photos with Kenny Smith, himself, in front of their large team trophy.

We are proud of our 9U Champions!!! Go CAVS 9U!!!!

CAVS 12U WIN CAVS HOLIDAY CLASSICS, 2010!!!

CAVS 12U Division swept through the CAVS Holiday Classics this past Saturday, December 4th and Sunday, December 5th, ultimately scoring the Platinum Championship (there was also a 12U Gold Division).

Things begun with CAVS 12U facing off with HD Crush at Grant High School on Saturday, where they picked up a 43-12 victory.
The excitement moved to Highland Hall, that afternoon, where 12U would garner a 49-31 win against All City West, placing them in Sunday’s playoffs. On Sunday, 12U beat Harvard Westlake 57-48 to meet right back with All City West for the semi-final rounds. SCORE!!! CAVS 12U rounded up a 51-31 win to move them on to the Platinum Championship game later Sunday evening.

It would be a game none of us will probably ever forget for years to come. LAWD.

You ready for this? How to begin? Well…CAVS 12U found themselves once again face-to-face with Las Vegas Elite. See…last year in June, at our CAVS Summer Classics, 12U was acting like they didn’t care WHO won our own classics; therefore, we walked away as 2nd place champions of our own tournament, while Las Vegas Elite won it all. ??????

Not this year.

In fact, not last season, either, when 12U (then 11U) turned the “out-to-lunch” sign around and brought home a 42-30 win against Las Vegas Elite in July. This past Sunday would be a bit different, with CAVS 12U taking the lead and bringing home the Platinum Championship with at least a 27-point victory (the clock was shut off at that point—we’ll get to that in a sec). The win was not just because of the gazillion technical fouls handed over to our friend/coach of LV Elite like Halloween candy, either. CAVS 12U pretty much had the victory in the bag. So  yeah….the 12U game was called on behalf of….irate “behavior”.  Many saw things that night that could’ve easily racked up millions of YouTube viewers, but we don’t take it there.

See…with games running behind (as they tend to do in multi-team tourneys) rain coming down hard outside, folks freshly pressed hairdo’s quickly becoming hair don’ts….the general mood of the Chatsworth gym was met with overall irritation to begin with.  Coaches had wild hairs, parents wanted to bicker, etc. All this was before the game even began.  Apparently, when it DID begin, you could cut the thick tension in the air with a knife. How ironic for a KIDS GAME.  (Did anyone remember these things are supposed to be about the kids?) Anyway….reportedly…parents were just livid with the refs over “bad calls” and with other parents in the stands….and scheduling…and this and that…yadayadayada. The bottom line? MOST just wanted the entire game OVER with at that point.

And so it was.

Congratulations CAVS 12U for bringing home the Platinum Championship! We see you!

CAVS 12U L to R: Elijah Walker, Coach Sean Regans, Julius Rucker, DJ McDonald, Taj Regans, Chasen Pender, Coach Joe Pender, Mike Irving, Jr., Coach Mike Irving, Sr., Colden Davis, Pearson Parker, Brian Devereaux,  Cameron Townsend and Coach Darryl McDonald.

CAVS 10U FINISH SECOND IN CAVS HOLIDAY CLASSICS, 2010!!!

Yep. Our CAVS 10U almost got em’, but finished second this past weekend, Saturday, December 4th and Sunday, December 5th, ultimately scoring the Platinum Runner-Up Title. It’s all good. We’ll take it….but just get em’ next time!
10U began the weekend with a Saturday afternoon victory, 37-28, against Kenny “The Jet” Smith’s Aim High and topped it off with a 31-20 win over AVAC Hoyas. On Sunday, a 28-18 win over SGV placed CAVS 10U into the Platinum Championship game with Riverside Matrix at Highland Hall.
10U truly almost had the championship at first, but Riverside Matrix turned the heat up to high, while our 10U started to waver between “simmer” and “medium heat”.
Shots were not falling; we did not attack the baskets or grab all the rebounds and loose balls that we could. Honestly? It appeared that Riverside Matrix was a teeny-weeny bit hungrier to win and it showed with their relentless drives to the basket.  Nevertheless, we are proud of our 10U team, as they still walked away from it all as Second Place Champions. We’ll get em’ next time, baby!!!  GO CAVS 10U!!
10U L to R:  Jonathan Daniels, Jordan Eason, Trystan Daggs, Kris Koon, Justin and Alex Korn, Coach Sean Regans, Anthony Spann, Isaiah Crooks, Kayla Wilder and Hazim Amirali
