CAVS DIVISIONS SWEEP IMPACT THANKSGIVING TOURNEY

......and we're baaaaack!!! GAME ON, BABY!!!!

Well....

We don't want to take up too much of your time, so we'll get STRAIGHT to the point.

The mighty CAVS Ballers headed to the Anaheim Sports Complex last weekend, November 24th-25th, 2012, to battle in the Impact Thanksgiving Tourney.

Wait. Okay....before we get to the point...one must truly wonder why someone would rent out a facility as LARGE as the Anaheim Sports Complex for such a small tournament. The place is GINORMOUS...and cold. Well...the Cal Berkeley B-Ball College Team was in the house practicing. That took up less than 1/10th of 1/16th of an area in the place...and for you math geniuses, that really does makes sense if you think about it.

With all that expressed, let's continue, shall we? Here is the Summary Report of the weekend (gosh...didn't that sound official???):

****CAVS 10U, by the default of only having two games to play, period (of which they won both) brought home their 1st Place Championship.

(Sorry...no pix of 10U yet. Waiting.....waiting.....)

****CAVS 14U battled four games (2 per day) and brought home their 1st Place Championship.

****CAVS 8U and CAVS 12U both finished as 2nd Place Champions.

 CAVS 8U

 CAVS 12U

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Now....THE DISH:

Did we mention that the Anaheim Sports Complex now has an alcohol bar? For you liquor-heads, you no longer have to sneak in your flasks and bottles in your duffel bags and backpacks. Just arrive! Yep. Perfect, right? Just what coaches need after their teams lose, eh?: A place to drown down their sorrows.

All depends on how you look at it.

Parking is still $10. Meh. Across the street is $10...you know, in that extremely-huge-it-won't-kill-us-to-make-parking-be-$5.00-but-we-won't-do-that-because-we-love-to-take-your-$10.00 flea market/swap meet parking lot? Meh squared. Across the stoplight and down the street is free. Yep. FREE! You just can't park in the business lots, because the Tow Police have special sets of skills to appear from nowhere to tow you away to HEAVEN knows where, but if you wear comfortable shoes and have a little patience, then you've got yourself a bargain---unless it is during a LARGE tournament. Then you're screwed.

$10.00 per day, baby!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Anyhoo.....

Congrats to all of our CAVS Ballers!!! GREAT SHOWING overall this past weekend!!!!

*****Next up...the mighty, mighty CAVS Holiday Classic Tourney, December 1st & 2nd, 2012!!! GAME ON!!!

RENO ROUNDUP: CAVS 8U Finish as 2nd Place Champions, CAVS 9U Finish 3rd in Jam On It Memorial Day Tourney

We've told you before that great things come in small packages--yes?

CAVS 8U fought their way to the championship game in the Jam On It Memorial Day Tourney, May 25th-28th, 2012 and finished as 2nd Place Champions!! Go CAVS 8U!!

In the meantime, CAVS 9U went undefeated on Saturday and Sunday, until the final rounds, where they lost one game.
This---just like it did to CAVS 13U---sent them flying down into the 3rd place bracket. So, yes…CAVS 9U took home the 3rd Place Title.

Nevertheless, we are proud of our small-but-mighty tykes, who will be ballin’ out this coming weekend at the SOLD-OUT CAVS Summer Classic Tourney 2012!

GO CAVS 8U and 9U!!!

And....

Shouts out to CAVS 11U who didn’t go undefeated, but balled out in the end!!

CAVS 13U Finish 3rd at Reno Memorial Day Jam On It Tourney

3rd? Yep…you read right. CAVS 13U---the mighty squad that has won this tourney multiple years lost ONE game out of four & wound up finishing 3rd for 2012.
Don’t ask. I am about to tell you.

How’s this for irony? CAVS 13U battled BOTH the 13U and the 14U All-City West teams in a shootout over Mother’s Day Weekend and defeated them both.

All-City West returned the favor this past Memorial Day weekend and beat CAVS 13U by two points. TWO POINTS, darnit! CAVS 13U was then catapulted into the 3rd place bracket, while All-City West went on to win the Championship vs. the Elite Shooting Stars in the Reno AAU Jam-On-It Tourney.

U gotta be kiddin’ me.

Seriously? I have to be honest. All-City West hustled ALL weekend long like they were hungry. I can’t lie. They deserved the championship. There are those who disagree (simply because they know what CAVS 13U can really do) but it is what it is.  I can't take away what really went down. CAVS 13U could have taken it all, but PLAIN AND SIMPLE, they didn’t hustle as hard in the All-City West game as they should have. Some say that CAVS 13U would have responded differently if their main coach, Coach D was there (he was coaching our 8U squad). While it is true that the head coach brings the energy and inspiration out of CAVS 13U (and every other player) like no other, the will to win is the will to win.

Either you are gonna BRING YOUR "A" game, or you are not---no matter WHO is there or not there!

So....

First things first.

CAVS 13U began on Saturday with a victory against the Enterprise Junior Hornets, 75-34.
You already know that on Sunday, CAVS 13U met up with All-City West (and even maintained a lead, but lost it through mistakes) and lost 56-58.
With no other choice but to play for 3rd Place (doggonnit!!!) CAVS 13U faced off with the Grizzlies, at 9:20pm that night, at the Grand Sierra Hotel (yeah...I guess that late game was the premiere punishment for losing).
You want to know something, though?
CAVS 13U played the BEST they'd played ALL WEEKEND at this game.  Coach D was back in effect and the boys were hyped and BALLIN' OUT!!! It turned out to be quite fun to watch. Despite the Grizzlies not exactly being the easiest team to beat, the CAVS boys landed the victory, 56-42.

Luckily, Monday's originally-scheduled 4:00pm game was rescheduled to 10:40am and CAVS 13U battled the Yellow Jackets (also not a pushover team) garnering the 3rd Place Title, 65-61.
Meh.

It sickens us, really. CAVS 13U is a LOT better than what they played, actually. It feels strange, but it is an eye-opener. In this life, you MUST give everything competitive 100%, or what is the point in doing it? GO HARD OR GO HOME!!!!  Shouts out and much love to All-City West for taking home the championship, because they truly deserved it. We don't hate; we congratulate....when true credit is due.

However....(and you KNOW there had to be a "however") this coming weekend, June 2nd-3rd, 2012, at our very own SOLD-OUT CAVS Summer Classic Tourney, the CAVS 13U boyz and All-City West will most definitely face off once again.

THAT, my friends, is going to be the game of the century.

You can take that and deposit it.

CAVS 13U Win EYB Basketball/Jr. Hoops Tourney

Okay, folks....we REALLY have to apologize on this one. Talk about amnesia and just plain being busy with other things! So now, we will have to rewind the tape back. WAY back. We apologize for missing the post of this win, which was merely saved as a draft and never published.

Crack is real!

Anyway.....here we go.

CAVS 16U won their championship in this tourney, too, but we’ll stick to the subject at hand.

CAVS 13U took things to the Rancho Cucamonga/Corona area during the weekend of May 5th-6th, 2012 for the EYB/Jr. Hoops Tourney and returned with the championship win.

First of all, I’d just like to say that there ought to be a law against how many freeways one should be forced to take just to get to one location.  Five different freeways to get to the Player’s Edge gym location REALLY WAS NOT CUTE. It was a nice day, though! Wait---and speaking of Player’s Edge, this location was merely comprised of OMG--converted ex-office space. There was only four courts!

BINGO!!!

If I could convert office space in the SAN FERNANDO VALLEY AREA to the court facilities we so DESPERATELY need in the Valley (to prevent its youth basketball inhabitants from driving ACROSS EARTH to get to tournaments) I would have done so yesterday. Can someone please do that? Anyway…..

Let’s get on with it, shall we?

So, Saturday was a joy because the first game was not until 1:00pm...IN Rancho Cucamonga. It wasn’t that bad getting there.

BLESS the schedule makers.

CAVS 13U met the Corona Lakers on center court (remember…there were only four) and won 38-16. The next game was at 5pm.

Wait.....

5pm?

From 1:00pm? The Schedule Makers lost their street cred on this one. BOOOOOO!!!!

What were they thinking?

So, four hours later (which seemed like fourteen, as there is only SO MUCH eating, going to the bank and perusing the grocery store--for items YOU KNOW you have at home and don’t really need ANY more of--you can DO in Rancho Cucamonga) CAVS 13U played Impact and won, 74-14.
On Sunday, it was off to Corona.

Corona is NOT as easy to get to as Rancho Cucamonga is (by a LONGSHOT) hence the five different freeways and that childlike question that probably rang in all of our heads, “Are we there yet?”
Nevertheless, at 10:15am, CAVS 13U met up with EYB and scored that victory, 60-19, which launched them into the Semi-Final game at 12:15pm.
MUCH better scheduling occurred on Sunday!

CAVS 13U battled it out with O.C. Premier and won the Semi-Final game, 44-35. Time for the Championship Game!

At 2:00 (or 2:15….can’t really remember for certain) CAVS 13U battled it out with O3 Elite.
Let’s just say…this team came with quite an “interesting” set of parents. One asked one of our parents to “move to the other side” of the seating areas because, after all, “weren’t most of our team members on the other side?” and another actually told one of our most “cool-until-messed-with-then-all-heck-breaks-loose” parents to SHUT UP—when that parent was only talking to his  OWN kid!

OMG. What did they do that for?

That little action most definitely brought on an INSTANT VERBAL LASHING that probably won’t be forgotten for months to come.
In fact, I’d be willing to bet that parent won’t EVER tell our parent to shut up EVER again!

Despite that….CAVS 13U won the championship, 55-21.
CO CAVS 13U!!!!
